Is it nearly spring yet? Some yoga offerings to help you through to the end of winter!

We are slowly edging through winter, we have had rain, we have had wind, we have had GREY, we have had frosty clear and crazily cold, we have had it all (apart from some proper snow!) But the end is in sight - I promise! In fact, February 1st is an ancient Celtic festival called Imbolc. Imbolc marks the mid point between the shortest day and spring equinox, it is a lovely celebration linked to the very first tiny signs of spring arriving, the very first snowdrops might have appeared and there is noticeably more daylight; in fact there is a whole 1 hour and 18 minutes more daylight on February 1st than there was on the shortest day! Spring IS slowly on its way but she is being very subtle about it, it will take careful observation when outside to spot the tiny shoots and leaf buds, you might even notice an increase in birdsong, not for Imbolc are the giant sweeps of sunny yellow daffodils, but instead the subtle creamy prettiness of the occasional snowdrops sprinkled on the ground! Despite this its still dark and chilly - proper spring feels a long way away; here at Emma’s Yoga Hut in Earley there are a raft of lovely yoga offerings for you to select from to support and nurture you through the last leg of winter and up to the spring equinox:

Soothing Restorative Sunday: 25th February 2024: You will be welcomed into the cosy fairy light strewn yoga hut to enjoy 90 minutes of deep rest to restore your body, mind and soul and take you into calm serenity. Themed around self-care, we will enjoy long held restorative yoga poses fully supported by bolsters, blocks and blankets, allowing the body to gain deep nourishment from each pose at a cellular level. Followed by an extended guided relaxation.

Spring Equinox Mini-Retreat: Thursday 21st March 2024 7 – 8:45pm: Celebrate the return of spring! We will be surrounded by candles and flowers as we practice sun salutations to greet the return of light over darkness, followed by balances to help stabilise our transition into a new season. We will then move into some longer held Yin Yoga poses focussing on the Liver and Gallbladder meridians – these meridians support the bodies natural detoxification and digestive functions; as such they are associated with embracing the opportunity to shed the old and consciously begin again. This will be followed by a lovely extended spring themed guided relaxation.

Soothing Restorative Sunday: 24th March 2024: Just like the February restorative session, but this time themed around growth and change. This is the last restorative Sunday until September, restorative is a peaceful and beautiful inward looking practice and as such aligns to the cooler and darker months. We will re-start our restorative classes in September when the days start to shorten and the urge to snuggle down re-emerges!

By the way - if you have any early rising friends who like a bit of yoga in the morning, then send them in this direction - there is still 1 place on our Wednesday morning Sunrise class which starts on 21st February!

As always, simply go to the classes page on www.emmasyogahut.co.uk to book your space at any (or all!) of these yoga treats! There are some lovely things in the pipeline as the Spring unfolds, including an renewing Easter offering and our first ever Full Moon mini retreat! Keep your eyes peeled for the next email from me which will tell you all about it!

I hope to see you soon, in the mean time, wrap up warm and enjoy being cosy with blankets and hot drinks during the last leg of winter!

With love,

Emma x

(Emma runs Emma's Yoga Hut in Earley. A tiny garden studio for small group yoga tuition. She is a yoga student and yoga teacher and has practiced yoga for nearly 30 years. She trained with the Traditional Yoga Association (TYA) right here in Reading between 2016 and 2018 to achieve her 500 hour yoga teaching accreditation, and has additional teaching qualifications in Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra. She is currently training in ForLife Yoga with the TYA, and has just signed up to learn how to run sound baths too. Emma tries her best to practice yoga every day, but these good intentions don't always go to plan, especially when it is cold and dark in the morning and coffee, a blanket and a cat on the lap are a too tempting alternative!)
