My love for sound baths began by accident. Back in 2018, I went to my very first World Yoga Festival, back when it was in Pangbourne not Henley! I had never even heard of a sound bath before, but I saw one on the schedule and thought, “Why not? I could do with a lie down after all that yoga!” I walked into that tent with no expectations at all… and walked out loving sound baths.
I loved the sound, the stillness, the way the vibrations of the sound seemed to settle something deep inside me — I was hooked from that moment. I sought out sound baths wherever I could find them, and back then they were a little bit harder to find!
In January 2024 I was resting deeply at a beautiful New Moon sound bath — and if you know anything about the New Moon, you’ll know it’s all about new beginnings, intention setting, fresh starts, and inner reflection. As the sound bath ended and I slowly came back to the room, I just knew. It was one of those rare, crystal - clear moments of certainty - I knew I was going to train as a sound bath facilitator. And, honestly, I couldn’t believe it had taken me so long to realise it.

Fast-forward to today, and my seasonal and lunar sound baths in Earley have become one of the most loved offerings of Emma’s Yoga Hut. People come for rest, for calm, for healing, or simply for an hour of peace and quiet to escape a busy world. Whatever brings you through the door, you are always welcome!

What is a sound bath?
A sound bath is a deeply restful experience where you lie down, get cosy, close your eyes, and after a beautiful guided mediation you simply rest and allow the soothing sounds of singing bowls, chimes and other instruments to wash over you. There is no movement, no effort, no “doing it right”. You simply rest and receive. An act of being rather than doing.
At Emma’s Yoga Hut, I use either beautiful, ethereal Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls or my lovely resonant Himalayan full moon singing bowls. And of course there are chimes, and gentle percussion instruments to create calming sound waves that help the mind settle and the body soften.
People often describe it as:
“like meditation, but easy”
“a massage for the mind”
“the best sleep I’ve had in ages”
It’s a chance to pause, breathe, and let your nervous system unwind.

Why try a sound bath?
Sound baths can be wonderfully supportive for:
stress and overwhelm
difficulty sleeping
anxiety
low mood
busy minds
emotional release
deep rest and relaxation
The sound vibrations from the bowls can help ease tension in the body, while the steady, soothing tones encourage the mind to drift into a calmer state. Many people leave feeling lighter, clearer, and more grounded.
And the best part? You don’t need any experience at all. Sound baths are accessible to everyone.
What do you need to bring?
For Emma’s Yoga Hut Seasonal Sound Baths at Earley Crescent Resource Centre you will need:
a yoga mat
as many blankets as you like so you can be cosy
as many cushions as you like to be comfortable
eye pillow or eye mask if you like
some water
cosy socks, because cold toes are never relaxing!
If you come along to one of Emma’s Yoga Hut in-house luxury sound baths, you don’t need to bring anything at all – apart from those cosy socks. I provide absolutely everything else.
Just wear something comfortable, warm, and soft. Think pyjama levels of comfort (honestly – you can even wear pyjamas – there will be absolutely no judgement from me!!)

What to expect in a sound bath
We begin with a few minutes of beautiful guided mediation to help you settle, so you can easily lie back, get comfortable, and allow the sound to guide you even deeper into rest.
During the session, you’ll hear:
soft singing bowls
gentle chimes
grounding percussion – ocean drums, rain sticks and similar
moments of silence
There is no movement, no talking, and nothing you need to do. Just rest.
Afterwards, we take a few moments to come back slowly, and we ground with oracle cards and home made bliss balls and fresh fruit before we float out into the night!
Sound Bath FAQ
Do I need to know anything before coming?
No — sound baths are suitable for complete beginners. You simply lie down and relax.
What if I can’t lie on the floor?
No problem at all. I can set you up comfortably on a chair with a chair for your feet too if you like , add in with blankets and cushions and you can enjoy the session fully.
Will I fall asleep?
Possibly — and that’s absolutely fine. It is not unusual for people drift in and out of sleep during a sound bath.
Is a sound bath the same as meditation?
It’s similar, but many people find sound baths easier because the sound gives the mind something gentle to focus on and almost short cuts to you a deeper meditative state.
How will I feel afterwards?
Most people feel calm, rested, and deeply relaxed. Some feel emotional release, others feel energised, sometimes you might feel a deep sense of clarity. Every experience is unique.
